Treatment for Neuro Motor Immaturity occurs as part of a 4-step process:
Step 1 – Identification of Symptoms
You can complete the Checklist of Symptoms. Once received, Paul Stadler, OTR/L, will review the Checklist and other information that you are asked to provide. Based upon this information, Paul will call you to further discuss your child’s symptoms and difficulties he or she is experiencing.
Step 2 – Phone Conference
At your phone conference, you and Paul will review your child’s symptoms, educational and health history, and behavior. Paul will them discuss with you whether or not your child will benefit from INPP methods and intervention and what results can be expected, generally.
You may also ask any questions you have regarding Neuro Motor Immaturity and the INPP process.
Step 3 – Assessment
Paul will come to your home to assess your child. Testing will cover the following:
- Listening ability
- Balance
- Patterns of motor development
- Gross and fine muscle co-ordination
- Presence of aberrant reflexes
- Laterality
- Ocular-motor functioning
- Visual-perceptual abilities
- Visual-motor integration performance.
This assessment will take approximately 3 hours and will help in the development of a treatment program. A report will be written outline the results of this testing, which can be used by parents and educators to further understand the child’s Neuro Motor Immaturity.
Step 4 – Program Development and Implementation
Once your child has been assessed, Paul will then create a treatment program that focuses on your child’s needs. The program is meant to be implemented at home on a daily basis for about 10 minutes per day and consists of exercises that retrain reflex pathways and improve control over voluntary movements. The typical program lasts 12 months.
Implementation of your child’s program is a collaborative effort between the parent, the child, and Paul. Dedication and commitment to the program is essential and parents should have the strong desire to participate in their child’s treatment.
Progress is reviewed every 8 weeks and adjustments to the program are made as needed. Each review takes approximately 45 minutes.
