Symptoms

At the start of a child’s school career, parents (and sometimes, teachers) may assume that the student will “grow out of” or mature out of behaviors commonly associated with NMI, including attention concerns, hyperactivity, and reading and writing problems.  As the year progresses, however, children with NMI become increasingly frustrated, less focused, and continue to suffer with their difficulties and fall further behind, creating a vicious cycle of failure, frustration, and lack of motivation.
